Terms of service
ResumeX turns career notes into a typeset PDF: you paste what you have, an AI model writes the LaTeX, and we compile it. Using the site means you accept what follows.
What a credit buys
One credit is one generation. It is spent when a generation starts and given back automatically if the generation fails, so a broken run never costs you anything. Credits do not expire. New accounts get three, free.
Buying credits
Credits are sold in one-off packs, in US dollars, at the prices shown on the pricing page. There is no subscription and nothing recurring: you buy a pack, the credits are added to your balance, and nothing charges you again until you choose to buy another.
Payment is handled by Polar (Polar Software Inc.), who act as the merchant of record. That means Polar — not ResumeX — is the seller for the transaction: they take the payment, handle any sales tax or VAT, and issue your receipt. Your card details are entered on Polar’s checkout and are never sent to or stored by us. We are told only that a specific order succeeded and which pack it was for.
Credits appear on your balance as soon as Polar confirms the payment, usually within a few seconds. If they have not appeared within a few minutes, email us with the order number from your receipt and we will sort it out.
Your content is yours
You keep every right to what you type and to the PDF that comes back. We claim no ownership and no licence to reuse it. In return, only submit material you are entitled to submit — your own career history, or someone’s you are authorised to write for.
Check the output
The wording is produced by an AI model. It can restate a date wrongly, invent a plausible detail, or drop something that mattered. Read the PDF before you send it anywhere. We typeset the document; you own and verify the facts in it. ResumeX is not career, legal, or immigration advice.
Fair use of the service
Do not attempt to break, overload, or automate bulk access to the service, and do not use it to produce material that is unlawful or deliberately deceptive. Accounts doing any of that can be suspended or removed. You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself.
Availability
The service is offered as it is, without guarantees of uptime, of a particular result, or of fitness for any specific application. It may be unavailable, and features may change or disappear. Where the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
Closing your account
Email us at [email protected] from the address on the account and we will close it. Closing is permanent and takes any remaining credits with it, so if you are owed a refund, ask for it before you ask us to close the account. See the privacy policy for exactly what is erased.
Changes
These terms can change; the date at the top says when they last did. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated version.
Refund policy
Short version: if a generation fails you are never charged for it, and if you change your mind we refund credits you have not used, for fourteen days.
Failed generations cost nothing
This is automatic and needs no request. A credit is held when a generation starts and returned to your balance if it does not produce a PDF — a model error, a compile failure, a timeout. You do not lose a credit for our failure, and there is nothing to claim.
Unused credits, fourteen days
Within 14 days of a purchase we refund the credits from that purchase you have not spent, at the price you paid for them. If you bought a pack of ten and used three, the seven remaining are refundable; the three are not, because each one ran a paid AI model and produced a document you kept.
Refunded credits are removed from your balance when the refund is issued.
Outside that window, or credits already used
We will still look. If the service was broken, if you were charged twice, or if something went wrong that was our fault, write to us and we will make it right — the fourteen days are a promise, not a limit on fairness. What we will not refund is credits spent on generations that worked, months after the fact.
How to ask
Email [email protected] with the order reference from your Polar receipt and a sentence about what happened. We reply within three working days. Approved refunds are issued by Polar to the card or account you paid with, and typically appear within five to ten working days depending on your bank.
Your statutory rights
Nothing above reduces rights you have by law. Consumers in the UK and EU have a statutory 14-day right to withdraw from a distance purchase; where you have started using credits within that period, that right applies to the credits you have not used. If your local consumer law gives you more than this policy does, your local law wins.
Privacy policy
The short version: your account details are stored, your resume content is not, and one company outside ResumeX sees your text — the AI provider that writes it. If you buy credits, a payment processor sees your payment details; we never do.
What we store
- Your account
- Name, email address, the date you signed up, your plan, and your credit balance.
- Your password
- Only as an argon2id hash — a one-way scramble. We cannot read your password and could not tell it to you or to anyone else.
- Google sign-in
- If you sign in with Google, we store the account identifier Google gives us, plus the name and email address it returns. Nothing else from your Google account.
- Your session
- A row holding a hashed copy of your session token, so that a leaked database read cannot be replayed as a login.
- A password reset
- If you ask to reset your password, a hashed copy of the code we email you, so it can be checked. It stops working after 10 minutes, and is deleted once used or cleared out after it expires.
- Your purchases
- For each pack you buy: Polar’s order reference, which pack it was, how many credits it granted, and when. This is what stops a repeated payment notification from crediting you twice, and it is what a refund is checked against. No card number, no expiry, no billing address — those never reach our server.
What we do not store
Your resume content. The text you paste is held in memory for the length of one request: it goes to the AI provider, comes back as LaTeX, is written into a temporary build directory so that LaTeX can compile it, and that directory is deleted as soon as the PDF is produced. The PDF is streamed to your browser and never saved on our side. Close the tab without downloading and it is gone for good.
Server logs record what each account does, under its name: signing up, signing in and out, opening a page, starting a checkout, paying, and generating. For a generation they also record a request id, the template, the name on the resume, how many sections it had, and how many AI tokens it used. They do not record the prose of your resume.
Who else sees your text
- OpenRouter, and through it a model vendor
- Your resume text is sent to OpenRouter, which routes it to the AI model that writes the LaTeX. Their handling of that request is governed by their own terms. This is the single most important thing to know before pasting anything sensitive.
- Only if you choose Google sign-in, and only for the sign-in itself. Your resume content is never sent to Google.
- Polar, if you buy credits
- Checkout happens on Polar’s own pages, where you give them your email address and payment details directly; they are the merchant of record and handle the money and the tax. We send them the pack you chose and a reference to your account, and they tell us the order succeeded. Your resume text is never sent to Polar, and their handling of your payment data is governed by their privacy policy.
- Resend, for the signup code
- Your email address, so the six-digit code that confirms your account can be delivered. Nothing else, and never your resume text.
That is the entire list. There are no analytics, no advertising, no third-party fonts or scripts, and nothing embedded that phones home.
Cookies
Exactly one: the session cookie that keeps you signed in. It is HttpOnly, same-site, and strictly necessary — no tracking cookies exist here, which is why you are not being asked to dismiss a banner. Signing out deletes it and the session behind it.
Deleting everything
Email [email protected] from the address on the account and we will erase it: the account row and every session attached to it. There is no soft delete, no grace period, and no copy kept for later. We do this by hand rather than behind a one-click button, because the deletion cannot be undone and would take any purchased credits with it.
One record survives, and has to: purchase records are kept for the seven years that tax and accounting rules require, holding the order reference, the pack and the date. After an erasure they are no longer linked to a living account.
